Over a third of the twenty two tracks on this CD were mastered from Perry's recently unearthed master tapes and feature nine previously unreleased cuts including four previously unreleased songs and five previously unreleased alternate takes. The rest of the tracks on the album have not appeared on CD before and have been painstakingly mastered from rare vinyl singles. The Double vinyl gatefold album contains two additional tracks, and a three-track 12-inch is also available (see below). The extensive sleeve notes in the twenty page full colour booklet were written by compiler David Katz, author of the official Lee Perry biography 'People Funny Boy'. Featured artists include Lee Perry, The Upsetters, The Silvertones, Prince Jazzbo, The Ethiopians, Susan Cadogan, Jimmy Riley, Stranger & Gladdy, The Versatiles and many others. All tracks were produced and/or engineered by Lee Perry, the majority at his famed Black Ark studio.

....a collection
that rivals the brand leader 'Arkology' ...I can't seem to stop listening
to this album. I wholeheartedly suggest you try it too. [Born in
the Sky] confirms Perry's unique genius more than nearly any of his many
prior anthologies. Born In The
Sky is certainly not just another Black Ark re-release. For starters,
it covers a much wider period then just his Black Ark era, you'll find
tracks as old as 1969 on the disc so you can really check out different
stages of development in Lee Perry's works. Second, 'Scratch' himself
was involved in this release as well and that's not a thing you can say
about every new Lee Perry re-release that we see. Third: Very informative
liner notes written by David Katz, who wrote the Lee Perry biography "People
Funny Boy". In short, another historic release by Motion. ....one of the most outstanding releases among the overwhelming amount of compilation sets which have also collected Lee Perry produced material from that era. Born In The
Sky gathers together some of the finest tracks produced by Lee Perry before
he established his name as a top notch and innovative producer in the
roots era. Truly well worth checking out for "Scratch" fans and newcomers
alike! There are
probably more Lee Perry compilations on the market than from any other
producer known to mankind. It is quite refreshing then, to find one such
album that stands out from the crowd in both content and quality. At last Perry's
work gets the treatment it deserves...
